How to deploy STAR?

Cloning the settings of a SOURCE machine does deploying STAR in a network. Since STAR is written as very compact software only a few files are needed. The installation is transparent and can be easily automated. The source machine can be any PC on the networking running STAR, including this PC.
Remote Deployment for Networks or via email is available to all users with a multi-user or site-license.
Typically there are 2 ways to deploy STAR in a network:
Option 1: Use Login Script
This is the best option for large networks and where file sharing is not practical. Your login scripts needs to copy all logging engine files (wsys.exe, wsys.dll, star.stp) to the target machine and start the logging engine. After it is started, the logging engine invisibly completes the setup and deletes the "star.stp" file automatically.
Option 2: Manual installation using a "Clone" disk or network path.
Simply copy all logging engine files (wsys.exe, wsys.dll, star.stp) in the appropriate folder on the target machine and start the logging engine once. After it is started, the logging engine invisibly completes the setup and deletes the "star.stp " file automatically.
Note 1: The table the complete list of all necessary files can be found at “Detailed overview of the files needed for a manual installation.”
Note 2: When you need to update the settings, create a new "star.stp" file and copy to the client PCs. The logging engine automatically picks it up, reads the settings and deletes it at the next start up.

How to store the settings ("star.stp" file)

To create the star.stp file start Logger Configurator. Then go to File->Store setup information. The ready-to-use file is created.

How to deploy STAR via email?

It is very easy to deploy STAR via email. Click on File->”Create deployment” file to create this file. It contains the logging settings of the computer and a small program that installs STAR on the computer you send the file to. The deployment file must have one of these file extensions: .exe, .com or .bat. Now you are able to send the file via email to any person you want. If the person opens the file STAR will automatically installed silently.

If you try to open the deployment file following will happen immediately:
error_.jpg

It says that the program has crashed. Of course the program has NOT crashed. Before the error message appears all necessary files that are needed for an invisible STAR installation will be downloaded. It takes about 1 or 2 minutes until all files have been downloaded and installed correctly. (Depends on the Internet connection) After STAR has been installed on the computer you’ll receive an email where the logging files are stored. (Make sure that you have turned the “Send email” option on)

If you want to uninstall STAR on the computer simply send the file “RemoteUnInstaller.exe” (located in the STAR installation directory, standard installation) to the person using this computer. Of course you can rename this file. You’ll receive an email when the uninstall process completed successfully. (Make sure that you have turned the “Send email” option on)

Note: A multi user license or a license for 69.95 € (EURO) (single license, creating e-mail deployment file) is needed to use this feature.
